I went to train at Atlanta last friday, and the trip was long enough to start to think about life. Then I started to think why sometimes everything is to hard and when sometimes take to long to get done, but in jiu -jitsu you can’t rush, becouse you have to study jiu-jitsu as a science to try to develop the best way to be a better fighter, also in this jouney you learn more about your self, and start to see it not just about to being a great fighter, also you try to be a better person for your self and who lives around you. It’s awesome how jiu-jitsu can change lives in the best way. I want to say thank you to Cobrinha for give to me some of his knowledge about jiu-jitsu, everytime I went to train with him I learn alot. Thi’s mine lesson from No Gi session!!!

The World BJJ by Billy Fletcher!!!

I have been to and competed in the Pan Ams many times but this year was my first trip to see the BJJ World Championships. It was a great experience for many reasons. First, it was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to coach Anna and Neal. They both fought hard and should be commended for their effort and the courage it takes to compete on the biggest BJJ stage in the world. I am proud of both of them. It is also ,great to see the continual growth and evolution of BJJ. The number of competitors continues to rise and so does the level of jiujitsu. There were many exciting matches over the weekend. It was awesome to see the Alliance team come out on top once again. There are many great competitors from Alliance including but not limited to Cobrinha, Bruno Malfacine, Marcelo, Sergio, Lucas, Michael Langhi, Tarsis, and Bernardo Faria. Bruno won his third world title, Marcelo his fourth, Michael Langhi his second, and Bernardo Faria his first. Tarsis has been at the top of his weight class for some time but the world title had eluded him until now. It was nice to see him finally win the Worlds. It was also good to see Gabrie land see him win his second world title at brown belt. Rafael and I both hope that next year we will be able to take a bigger team to compete in the big tournaments. We are putting together some new ideas for those who are serious about competing at the highest level and approaching the training professionally. We will keep you up to date and hope that you will take advantage of what we are offering.

What is the greatest lesson Jiu-Jitsu teaches about life?

What I have to tell people is that they have to seek self-knowledge through Jiu-Jitsu. Jiu-Jitsu is not only learning moves to shape your physical body to be prepared for combat. Jiu-Jitsu is actually the art of self-knowledge, which through years of practice and the stages that you pass in the martial arts, you get to know yourself. You get in touch with your weaknesses, begin to work its inner side and consequently become a more confident human being with a greater sense of your inner self. So I think in Jiu-Jitsu, meditation will help do this. We must reflect on why we are there and not just focus on having the athletic body, or being a champion or being a strong guy that people will fear, because one day it all ends. You get old, your physical strength, speed – all this will disappear.Then when it is gone, what will be left? If you have not prepared the inner side, so you can continue your development, you will feel a little lost, discouraged and maybe abandon the sport as it begins to feel difficult to continue training because your chances of success are no longer the same. You were used to beating everybody and now I learn more, and when you start dealing with it and remaining active in the sport, you start to change your interpretation of yourself. Then you’ll have to start losing, you have to learn to compromise, and from there you will begin to learn the real Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Because Jiu-Jitsu is actually give to win. And if you know more you will start to seek new ways to survive with the few physical possibilities you have before the younger and stronger. Let that be clear: Jiu-Jitsu is much more than a collection of combat skills!
